Well folks, it's been fun, but now I am relocating to my (semi)new domain, lay-c.com. I've been meaning to do this forever, and I finally just sat down and put it together. Thanks to you guys who pushed me (ahem) to just take the leap. For now, it's still just a weblog, but it will eventually house my portfolio and other stuff. You know how it goes. So I would greatly appreciate you pointing your links to lay-c.com and remember to change your bookmarks! This will stay here for archival purposes, though, so it's not the end! It's never the end!

AIGA has some interesting interpretations of 9/11 on their site. I especially like the very first one, and then the "two images" one. Nice stuff.

Yeah I got that Nimda virus on my machine last week, but thank goodness for the network virus scan. I had it in many locations, and I'm honored to say I was one of the 5 machines (out of about 60) that got the virus. Yay me! Go fanatical internet searching!

Just in case anyone was wondering, Monotype Corsiva is a good PC substitution for Apple Chancery, which I couldn't get in a PC format. Do any of you fab PC users out there have it though?

I woke up this morning and it was freezing. And I mean that. I am flying home this weekend to get my furniture, and my warm clothes, and see my family, and I am SO happy about that. Not just because I've been living out of suitcases for a month, and have been sleeping on an air mattress in an empty apartment for a week...I wish the visit were going to be longer, but I'm just going to fly in on Saturday and pack my things, then dad and I are uhauling it up to Chicago on Sunday. Aah, my stuff. More like AAH MY COAT! AAH MY COFFEE MAKER! AAH MY SWEATERS! Gloves and scarves and aah, CLOSED-TOE SHOES!

I went to the art museum in Chicago yesterday. I saw this Bouguereau that took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes, and that's not easy to do! I went with my long lost friend Rob, who I didn't realize I missed so much and who has vast maturity and intelligence which I feel like I don't come across often enough. We enjoyed the museum on an intellectual, spiritual, and comical level...it was refreshing and lovely. I think I love Chicago more now.

I've listened to the new Ben Folds album today aboooouut 5 times, and whenever the song "Not the Same" comes on, I turn it up really lound and push my headphones to my ears and turn up the music so there is no hope whatsoever of any outside sound coming in. I am really liking that song. I like the part where he screams. Ha.

Wait, I take that back, it's a good year to START your retirement package, not a good year to be USING your retirement package. Darn confusing finances.

Amazing! Apparently NY governor Pataki is offering free college to the families of those affected by last week's terrorist attacks. Now THAT is nice.

Hahahahaha! An announcement came over the intercom at work today: "An ice cream truck is parked outside, with ice cream compliments of Enterprise Rent-a-car." I have never seen Baha'is go so fast anywhere in my life. Hahahahaha...I don't think we could have exited faster if there was a fire! Oh man, I love my job.

Beautiful narration at lauraholder. She very much conveys the spirit of the country right now, I think.

Even though I've had this layout for a while, I realize now that it's not very appropriate to keep up. I'll be taking it down as soon as I can, perhaps to be replaced with something more boring (as I do not have dreamweaver or ultradev or whatever it's called anymore, and don't trust myself with hand-coding). Maybe this is my sign that I should just move on over to lay-c.com? Be prepared for anything..

I'm not a big fan of Yahoo News, but I thought this slideshow was really excellent. Very beautiful photos, and I haven't seen most of them before.

I "moved" into my apartment this weekend. Even though I have no furniture, and it's pitifully empty at this point, I am completely and utterly in love with it. One side faces a lovely fenced courtyard, the other side faces the alley, where I can hear children playing and music in spanish from passing cars. My neighborhood is SO diverse...it's AWESOME! It's the right place for a Baha'i. :)

Interesting. 99x (Atlanta radio station) has replaced their webcam images with Fox News. Great to have at work with no TV, but stinks because the quality is horrible (gotta love RealPlayer)...and of course, there's only 99x music playing, no audio, and I can't read what's scrolling. So basically I'm looking at a bunch of white people talk alot. Click.

Despite all of the madness, I went and bought the new Ben Folds album yesterday. I've listened to it a couple of times, and already I am impressed with Ben's ability to construct a beautiful story with his lyrics. The songs are all so meaningful and heavy...the harmonies are impressive considering they are with...well, himself. Actually, on a song called "Fred Jones part 2" I heard another voice besides Ben's...one that was familiar to me. Come to find out it is John McCrea of Cake! Yea, now you know I like this album even more. Anyways, I believe this album to be a great purchase for anyone. Especially if you're in the mood for something witty but not necessarily happy. Perfect.

I'm supposed to be flying to Nashville on Saturday. Forget it. Southwest isn't even flying today, and the lines are busy, and the idea of going to any airport in the Chicago area this week is...well it's not gonna happen.

It's funny, 2 months ago I was set to move to NYC and work in the village. My parents strongly urged me against it, and I was resentful...then I got this opportunity in Chicago. Mom said New York would still be there in a couple of years when I'm done at this job. The irony of that statement.

Last night I was reflecing on this week. I was thinking how so many people (including myself) have been saying things that meant something yesterday mean nothing today, and things that meant nothing yesterday are everything now. Many people don't think of God unless they are faced with hardship, and in those desperate situations they implore Him for protection. I'm not trying to prosteletize, but in the Baha'i writings it talks about how not to spend the hours of your life idling with things other than Him. Not to say spend your life on your knees in prayer, but rather in service to humanity...isn't that what matters? Helping others rather than yourself? You could spend all day trading stocks and making money, but where has it gotten you? If you die in the next 10 minutes, that money isn't going to get your anything except a nice funeral. However, if you help your fellow humans, treat them ALL with kindness and forgiveness, that will make you not only feel good about yourself, but actually help someone else out in the process. We're all in it together. "The world is but one country, and mankind its citizens!" The unity and compassion of the people of New York City will become a shining example of what community means. Let's follow their example and support them by donating blood and praying for their well-being. Ya-Baha.

I archived as kind of a "moment of silence" thing. But since I'm logging now, that seems kindof redundant.

I wanted to share the most insightful links I found today, and also since the bloggers in NYC are trying to remember normalcy, I thought I would update you on them as well. Bryan and Rachel are fine, Mike C is also good (and his website has become some kind of a news-portal), and I got an email from Red today and he and his mother are both fine. A close call for them, but by the grace of God, all of these friends are okay.

I have been checking rion.nu because her accounts of yesterday are great, and she seems to want to document everything as it happens. It was nice yesterday to check back and see that she was continually updating...thanks to her. :) Also, kottke.org had links to some really fantastic pictures. I hate to say "fantastic" because it is so horrifying, but if you want to see the magnanimity of this, check out some of these shots. Just amazing.

My heart goes out to New York. God bless.
